GLM began as ChatGLM, a project developed by Zhipu AI together with Tsinghua KEG, and grew into a full model family under Z.ai — the company's international brand. Recent generations focused on agents: GLM-4.5 was built to unify reasoning, coding, and agent capabilities in one model. The GLM-5 generation then targeted complex systems engineering and long-horizon agentic tasks — the kind of work where an AI plans many steps, uses tools, and keeps going until the job is done.
